Study Abroad in Latin America
Study Abroad in Argentina Financial Aid Information
Parents can expect that our Expanish study abroad staff will work with their student on an individual basis in order to get the students financial aid transferred from their home institution to the study abroad program in Argentina.
For example, students from the United States are federally eligible to receive aid from their university, whether or not that program is a required part of their degree and they are also eligible to receive funding for more than just their tuition costs, including expenses such as travel and housing. Our goal is to make all of our study abroad programs in Argentina realistic for all students and their families.
Financial Aid Transfer for the United States
Please note that the following procedure is for students interested in a study abroad program in Buenos Aires who are citizens and living in the United States. Contact Us if your student is from a different country and would need assistance with determining the process for a financial aid transfer.
The steps below are those which your study abroad student must take when ordering the transfer of financial aid from their home institution; students must first contact their Financial Aid Department to find out the policy on transferring funds to student study abroad programs.
- Students should apply for financial aid from their university as they usually do each year by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and other appropriate home institution documents.
- Students must make an appointment to speak with someone in their Financial Aid Department in order to determine if their aid will transfer to Expanish programs. (NOTE: It is important that they speak to an academic advisor beforehand in order to ensure that their credits will be eligible for transfer back to their home institution, as this oftentimes determines study abroad financial air eligibility).
- If your students Financial Aid Department does allow study abroad aid transfers, they will generally need to turn in a program approval letter from Expanish which your family will receive once your students turns in their completed application and additional documents, as well as a form generally known as a “consortium agreement” that they will need to ask for from their Financial Aid Department. Help your student rill out any applicable portions of this form and then your student must contact their Expanish student advisor so that Expanish can complete the rest of the form, in order to determine your students’ costs for their time abroad and how much aid should be disbursed.
- Once your student has turned in all of their documents, they will receive news from their Financial Aid Department about the amount of their aid award. Your student must follow the instructions to accept the aid as soon as possible and turn in any remaining paperwork.
- Once the aid has been accepted and approved, your student must fill out the appropriate acceptance paperwork as directed by their Financial Aid Department.
- Students will then need to turn in a written consent for a financial aid transfer from their home institution financial aid office upon admission approval to Expanish [no later than sixty (60) days before program start date], and ensure balance is paid in full by thirty (30) days before program start date.
If parents or their study abroad student would like the help of Expanish in negotiating any part of this process, you or your student must advise the University Staff (university@expanish.com) by or before the application deadline. Please keep in mind that your students home institution does make all final decisions regarding their financial aid packages.
