Academic Credit Transfer

Transferring study abroad academic credits to student's home institutions

We at Expanish are happy to work with each student and advisor on an individual basis in order to seek to ensure that course credits received from the student's study abroad program are recognized by their home institution.

Advisors can contact us directly by using our online Contact Us form, sending us an email at university@expanish.com, or giving us a call:

Potential abroad students can also send us their advisor's name and contact information, and we will immediately contact them to figure out what the next steps are in order to assist the student in the process of securing university credit for their study abroad program courses in Argentina. The process of transferring credits is generally a simple procedure as our partner universities are all nationally-accredited, though the ultimate decision on credit recognition rests with the home university.

Please read over the following Academic Credit Transfer FAQs:

Which universities does Expanish work with? Are they nationally-accredited?

Expanish provides students programs at four of the top universities in Argentina: Universidad de Belgrano, Universidad Austral, Universidad Católica Argentina, and Universidad de Buenos Aires. All four universities are nationally accredited Argentine universities.

Who emits transcripts?

Transcripts are directly emitted to students by our Expanish partner universities, which include the Universidad de Belgrano, the Universidad Austral, the Universidad Catolica Argentina, and the Universidad de Buenos Aires. All four universities are nationally accredited universities in Argentina and students receive one transcript as an included part of their Expanish program.

When are transcripts emitted?

Transcript issuance varies based on each program and university, but students should expect to receive their transcript 2-3 months after their program end date. Some programs emit transcripts upon completion of the program, while semester & year programs may take longer.

How are grades assigned?

Academic grades in Argentina are assigned based on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the highest grade. This scale generally translates to the letter system as follows:

Grade Significance
0 Severe Disciplinary Sanction
1 Disciplinary Sanction
2 No Knowledge
3 Insufficient Knowledge
4 70% (minimum grade to pass) Sufficient
5 75%
6 80% Good
7 85%
8 90% Very good
9 95%
10 100% Excellent

Where are courses taught?

All courses are taught by the faculty of each partner university, on each respective campuses.

How many instruction hours does each course involve?

Courses on the Semester and Academic Year Programs and the Summer Latin American Studies Programs are generally 45 instruction hours (but, in some instances, can range up to 90 hours), which is the equivalent of one semester course at most US universities (at some schools this means equates to 3 credits per course while in others 4 credits). Courses in our Spanish language programs range from 100 instruction hours through 220 hours (6-8 credits, up through 12-16 credits).

Are there a minimum or maximum number of study abroad courses a student must take?

Semester and Academic Year in Buenos Aires: At Expanish we generally ask that students take a minimum of three courses during the semester. While there is no strict limit to the maximum number of courses a student can take, we encourage students to consider that the study abroad experience consists of a range of rich academic and cultural offerings. We at Expanish believe that the most enriching study abroad program is one that is well balanced in academics and in extracurricular activities.

Summer in Buenos Aires: Students can enroll in either a Spanish or English program of 4 weeks at the Universidad Austral. The 4 week session is composed of 2 three semester credit courses.

Spanish Language Programs: Spanish language programs range from 100 instruction hours to 220 hours; students can refer to the Courses table of Spanish Language Programs, in order to view the different program options with the corresponding course hours and course credits.
