“I had the best time studying in Buenos Aires. It’s incredible how much my Spanish has improved in the 8 weeks that I’ve lived here. Besides all the new friends that I made, my absolute favorite part was the trip to Iguazú. I’m really going to miss eating empanandas and alfajores 24/7!”

Company Liability

Expanish is not liable for any risks the student may be exposed to during his/her trip and or while studying at the chosen institution. These risks may include, but are not limited to: any personal injury, loss, additional expenses, property damage, sickness, accidents, terrorism and war. By submitting the enrollment form, the student has assumed all risks and agreeing to indemnify and hold Expanish and its directors, officers and employees harmless of any and all liability that may arise in Expanish programs.

Student Responsibilities

Expanish accepts no responsibilities or liability of whatever nature for students' actions or omissions. Students are expected to obey the laws, adapt to the customs of their host country and host family. Expanish reserves the right to expel (without refund) any student whose behavior violates or permanently disturbs the policies and rules or those of program providers, tour operators, host families, etc. The abuse of alcohol and any possession or use of illegal drugs will result in immediate termination of the program without refund. Any expenses incurred by Expanish, the host family, or the educational institution in terminating the program of a student will be the responsibility of the participant.

It is assumed and required that students have personally filled out and signed their applications, and therefore are personally held responsible for adhering to the terms and conditions of their program. As all students are above the age of 18 and thus legal adults, Expanish staff members have no obligation to discuss the student’s program with anyone other than the student, unless the student specifically requests that academic issues be discussed with their advisor or financial aid issues discussed with their financial aid officer. Students are required to request all changes to their program in written form; no changes requested by parents, advisors, or other third parties will be carried out until the student him/herself has requested these changes.

Students will never be maliciously discriminated against for any kind of special medical condition; however, if the student has any current or past medical condition, physical or mental, that affects their health & well-being and could potentially affect the people around them, such as classmates, housing hosts, school staff, workshop teachers, trip coordinators, etc., the student should disclose the disorder(s) to the appropriate Expanish staff member before their program begins, or if it develops during the program. If a student is suspected of having a non-disclosed illness that could greatly affect their own person or people around them, the student will be asked about this, and if necessary, their emergency contact will be notified. Examples of such illnesses can include, without limitation: alcoholism, drug addiction, eating disorders, bipolar, attention deficit disorders, past or current cancer, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C, etc. Any medical information disclosed will be kept confidential and only revealed to those providers involved in the student's program that absolutely must know, such as housing hosts in the case of an emergency. If any of the providers on the student's program who is directly affected by this illness was not advised beforehand because the student did not disclose the information and the provider is not comfortable with the situation, the student may be moved into a different housing placement, class, etc. In the case where the illness is clearly not under control and is negatively affecting the student or those around him/her, Expanish will once again contact the student, contact their emergency contact, and if necessary, terminate the program without refund Expanish shall further be entitled to terminate the program without notice according if it is seen that the student has culpably made false or incomplete statements about the following circumstances: alcoholism, drug addiction, health situation, eating disorders; or has culpably breached his obligation to notify Expanish of a change of such circumstances.

Students are required to independently notify Expanish of any past, present, or future criminal proceedings that could affect the School or fellow students directly, or cause an unsafe environment. Expanish shall be entitled to terminate the program without notice according if it is seen that the student has culpably made false or incomplete statements about their criminal history or future proceedings.

Program Expulsion

If the school or university staff, accommodation owner, workshop providers, and any other service providers, have found students abusing their facilities (including but not limited to the following: willful disregard and damage to physical property, non-adherence to normal health and safety standards including fire safety, non-adherence to housing rules set out in pre-arrival materials); physically assaulting, sexually harassing, or verbally abusing any staff member, fellow students, or service provider related to Expanish; willfully disrupting classroom instruction, permanently disturbs the learning environment, or causing others to fear for their safety; or participating in illegal activities as defined by the host country, the student’s program will be terminated without refund.

For all students on university programs, program expulsion will also occur if students are not covered by a health insurance plan within 21 days after their program start date, or if they drop their registered university courses without prior approval from the Expanish staff, or violate the policies of the host university (including but not limited to the following: absence policies, academic policies such as plagiarism, cheating policies).

Finally, students who are required to get their student visas by our partner universities (generally students who will be studying for more than 90 days) must complete their visa paperwork and receive their Temporary Residence form within the first 60 days of their program (not to exceed 90 days after the student’s entry into Argentina in the case of early arrivals), or they will be expelled from their program. Students will be guided through this process by Expanish staff, however any student who misses scheduled visa trips will be responsible for completing the action on their own.

Program expulsion is defined as removal from Expanish-provided accommodation, cancellation of all courses, cancellation of all workshops, and retraction of all provided support services, including cell phone return. In the case of university study abroad students, the emergency contact listed on their program application will be contacted and notified that the student is no longer a part of the Expanish program and, depending on the reason for program expulsion, student visas may be rescinded. Students furthermore may not break the Code of Conduct at our Expanish School & Study Center without risking program expulsion. In all exceptional cases for all Expanish students, final discretion will be left to the Expanish staff to determine whether program expulsion should occur.

Program Changes by Expanish

Expanish reserves the right to change courses, timetables, conditions and prices at its discretion without prior notification. The student is entitled to a refund of tuition fees for those courses that the company is not able to offer.

Program Changes by Student

If the student wishes to change their program in any way, they must inform the Expanish University Staff immediately, in writing, and the University Staff reserves the right to charge 100 USD per person, per change, to cover the additional administration involved, plus any additional charges incurred by schools, accommodation suppliers or other suppliers (supplier information available on request) and any other costs involved with modifications in the program. All changes requested cannot be guaranteed, and almost all changes will incur additional program costs in addition to the change fee. This fee is not applicable to students who wish to extend or upgrade their existing program.

Students are required to request all changes to their program in written form; no changes requested by parents, advisors, or other third parties will be carried out until the student him/herself has requested these changes.

Housing Changes

If the student informs the Expanish staff of an urgent and necessary reason to switch his/her accommodation within the first 3 days, the student can ask for relocation and there will be no charges. All relocations will take place the following Sunday. Final discretion will be left to the Expanish staff to determine whether or not relocation is the only necessary solution to the problem presented in each individual case. Students will be moved to a new placement in the same category; for any upgrades, students will be charged the tuition difference, for any downgrade, students will be charged a change fee. No refunds will be made after 10 days prior to the student’s program start date. After the first 3 days of the student’s program, or for any unnecessary reason, a charge may be incurred for any relocation requests.

Students may only change between a homestay with meals or a shared apartment.

If the student breaks the Code of Conduct in their housing placement, they will be asked to leave their housing with no refund and no subsequent housing placement.

Holidays

National and local holidays are not replaced with classes.

Minimum Age

The minimum age for enrolling in our university programs is 18 years. Students studying for a regular semester or on the Summer Latin American Studies Program must have a minimum of a high school diploma or the equivalent.

Activities and Excursions

Information about activities and excursions offered at our schools should only be used as a guide and not as an accurate list of events. The student can contact the Expanish staff prior to applying if him/her requires specific information about any of our activities. For these activities there may be minor fees associated with the activities. These extra fees typically cover expenses such as transportation and entrance fees. If Expanish offers extra weekend trips not included in the student’s program, the student is expected to pay the full cost of these trips.

Workshops

Students can arrange for workshops package before arrival, but all regular workshops will not be chosen and confirmed by the student until AFTER the student’s arrival in South America. Students can add on workshop packages after arrival as well.

Students will chose workshops in two week blocks, which cannot be changed or switched to another workshop after the time and date has been set by an Expanish student coordinator. If the student would like to change the time and day of the workshop, they must advise the student coordinator two days before the scheduled workshop. If the student would like to change the time and day of the workshop with less than 48 hours notice in the event of a sickness or an emergency only, they will need to personally contact their professor and arrange a new meeting time. NOTE: The student must keep in mind that in this case, the professor has the right to cancel the workshop for this week. No workshop refunds are made after the program start date.

Cellular Phone

Expanish offers students a cellular phone for use during their stay. If students want to take advantage of the offer, a deposit is required. Students must return the phone to a member of the Expanish staff at the end of their program. Expanish will not return the deposit in the event that the phone is damaged or not returned. Students are responsible for providing their own calling credit and for all charges incurred to their phone during the period the cellular was assigned to them.

Program Start Date

The Program is defined as starting on the first day of classes or the first day of accommodations, whichever occurs first.

Orientation

Orientation is a required component of the study abroad student’s program, and can only be missed with prior approval of the Expanish Staff, or in the event of an emergency. Orientation will not be repeated for students who do not attend without prior approval, and students will be responsible for finding out all important information on their own, particularly with relation to their classes, housing, health & safety, and terms & conditions of their program.

Payment

For University Programs a payment of minimum U$S 60 is required to confirm program placement (credited to program balance). Students can pay the remaining balance in two ways:

Option 1: Turn in a deposit of 20% of the total program fee upon admission approval (no later than fifty (50) days before program start date), and pay program balance in full by thirty (30) days before the program start date.

Option 2: Turn in a written consent for a financial aid transfer from the student's home institution financial aid office upon admission approval (no later than fifty (50) days before program start date), that states the balance will be paid to Expanish in full by thirty (30) days before program start date and the amount of the student’s invoice. If the student would like the help of Expanish in negotiating this process, the student must advise the University Staff This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it by or before the application deadline. The home institution does make all final decisions regarding their financial aid packages.
