Expanish recognizes the homestay is one of the most important elements in any experience abroad.
Expanish strives to maintain a well-established network of comfortable apartments and family homes in our
cities’ best neighborhoods. A member of Expanish personally visits each student accommodation in
Buenos Aires to ensure the quality of student housing.

What Expanish Looks for in Each Student Accommodation:

All study abroad student accommodations in Buenos Aires include a private room for each individual and at
least one native Spanish-speaker living in each homestay or shared apartment. Our goal for all students living
with a local host family or local young people is that they will use their hosts as resources about life in
Buenos Aires and the Spanish language, as well as become involved in their hosts’ social networks.

Each type of student accommodation in Buenos Aires is additionally screened for cleanliness, amenities,
distance from our students’ schools, and any special student requests, such as dietary needs, allergies,
pets, smoking, etc. We do our best to meet the needs of each of our students within the framework of local
cultural commodities and norms.

Overview of Student Housing in Buenos Aires

Family Homestay

The family homestay option is the best fit for students looking for a great deal of interaction with local
Argentines and who want to witness first-hand the host family’s daily life and customs. The host families
know the city of Buenos Aires inside and out, offer insight into porteño (Buenos Aires) culture, and greatly
enhance the student’s immersion process. The dynamics of our host families vary from señoras living alone to
young married couples with children to solo parents with college students. All families and living conditions are
screened to ensure secure and comfortable living environments. Students have the choice of joining the family
for meals or cooking on their own. We at Expanish believe the family homestay to be the best option for those
looking to accelerate their Spanish by seizing the opportunity to practice el castellano on a daily basis.

Shared Student Apartment

The shared apartment option suits independent students looking to live with other young native Spanish
speakers living in
Buenos Aires. These individuals are well acquainted with the city and its porteño culture, and
provide an excellent resource for expediting the student’s immersion in
Buenos Aires. Students may have
anywhere from one roommate up to eight other young people living under the same roof.  The other roommates
are students or young professionals living, working, and/or studying in
Buenos Aires and are generally between
the ages of 20-32. When living in a shared apartment students enjoy more freedom and added responsibility.
Students are expected to cook their own meals and clean up after themselves. The shared apartment option
offers independence to students who still look to gain from the knowledge and experience of their locally-based
roommates.

International residence

The residence option is the best fit for students seeking to live with other young international people living in
Buenos Aires. Fellow residents are other students or young professionals, some times including other native
Spanish speakers, who have been living in Buenos Aires for various amounts of time and offer a good network
for students to investigate the city from an international point of view. Students have single rooms and some
included services; services vary between residencies, including maid service, laundry, some meal options, etc.
Students can make requests; we will place students in residencies with most included options, which generally
depends on how soon students apply and are approved for their Expanish program. The residence option offers
independence to students looking to share their experience abroad with other international students living in
Buenos Aires.
