Eligibility requirements:

  • Undergraduate Students in good academic standing.
  • Pursuing a study abroad program with a focus on international business.
  • Must be applying to or been accepted into a study abroad program eligible for credit by the student’s home institution.
  • Must have financial need for scholarship funding.
  • Must be a US Citizen.

The John T. Petters Foundation was founded in honor of the remarkable life of John Petters. The young man lost his life while on spring break as a student in Florence, Italy. The foundation aims to realize John's dream of helping deserving students study abroad by providing college scholarships. The Foundation awards scholarships of approximately $5,000. This amount may be slightly lower or higher depending on the individual amount needed. Year long, semester and summer programs can all qualify for the same dollar amount. This Foundation looks to support a diverse range of students who have been traditionally underrepresented in study abroad, including but not limited to:  
- Students with high financial need
- Students interested in studying in diverse countries
- Students interested in study programs that emphasize cultural immersion
- Students with diverse ethnic backgrounds
- Students displaying accomplishments that indicate leadership, character, integrity, and motivation
- Students with disabilities. 

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship

Currently receive a Federal Pell Grant
U.S. Citizen or U.S. National currently enrolled in undergraduate program

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship program is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State and administered by the Institute of International Education. This program seeks to lower barriers to undergraduate study abroad by offering scholarships to students with financial need, and we encourage those underrepresented in study abroad to apply. The award is up to $5,000 for semester or academic year programs.

The National Security Education Program (NSEP)
David L. Boren Undergraduate Scholarship

Must be a U.S. undergraduate student

Offers undergraduate scholarships to U.S. citizens of up to $16,000 for summer, semester or academic year study abroad.

Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grant

Eligibility requirements:

Worldwide undergraduate
Attend an institution with a Phi Kappa Phi chapter
Minimum of 30 semester hours (or equivalent) and no more than 90 semester hours (or equivalent), including all AP, credit by exam, transfer credits, etc.
Grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale
Must have at least two semesters left at home institution after the  completion of your study abroad program

Offers 38 undergraduate scholarships to U.S. citizens of $1,000 each year for study abroad.

Golden Key International Study Abroad Scholarship

Offers 10 undergraduate scholarships to U.S. citizens of $1,000 each year for study abroad.

American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA)

Eligibility requirements:

Minimum of a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale
Resident or citizen of U.S. or Canada
Be enrolled in a university, college or travel school
Be enrolled in travel and tourism courses

Offers a variety of scholarships ranging from $250 to $3,000 including internship opportunities, development scholarships, research grants, non-travel major scholarships, and the traditional travel and tourism degree scholarships.

Offers a variety of scholarships, giving approximately $250 million per year in grants.

Ambassadorial Scholarships

Eligibility requirements:

Must be citizens of a country in which there are Rotary clubs.
Must have completed at least two years of college-level coursework or equivalent professional experience.

The Academic-Year Ambassadorial Scholarships are available to students for one academic year of study in another country in the amount of $26,000. This award will help to cover round-trip transportation, tuition, fees, room and board expenses, and some educational supplies. You must also pass a language proficiency exam if your native language is not that of your proposed study country to be considered for this award.

The Multi-Year Ambassadorial Scholarships are available to students for either two or three years of degree-oriented study in another country. If your native language is not that of your proposed study country, you must submit evidence of your ability to read, write and speak the language to be considered for this award.

NSCS Scholar Abroad Scholarship

Offers one $5,000 award each fall and spring semester and one $2,500 award each summer.

The Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship

Eligibility requirements:

Only individuals who are United States citizens at the time of application will be considered.
Applicants must be in the sophomore year of undergraduate study.
Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher on a 4.0 scale at the time of application.
A cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher on a 4.0 scale must be maintained throughout participation in the program.

The fellowship award includes tuition, room, board, and mandatory fees during the junior and senior years of college and during the first year of graduate study, with reimbursement for books and for travel (one round trip per academic year, up to a set maximum amount). Fellows must participate in one overseas and one domestic summer internship within the U.S. Department of State. Students receive a stipend during the internships. Fellows must commit to pursuing a graduate degree in international studies at one of the graduate schools participating in the program. Participating graduate schools provide financial support in the second year of graduate study based on need. Each successful candidate is obligated to a minimum of four-and-one-half years' service in an appointment as a Foreign Service officer.
