Student Activities in Buenos Aires

Study abroad student activities are normally offered 4-5 days a week in Buenos Aires in order to supplement the student experience without interfering with coursework. The coordination of these activities are included in each student’s program! Most activities offered are free or at a low cost for students, such as entrance fees or meal costs.

Our Expanish staff is always on hand to answer questions and explain local cultural activities to our study abroad students. Here are some examples of our study abroad student activities in Buenos Aires and the surrounding areas:

Workshops in Buenos Aires – Study Abroad Program Supplement


Expanish has partnered with local venues in Buenos Aires to offer special student activities in Buenos Aires called workshops that supplement the study abroad programs and, most importantly, offer contact with local Argentines. Flex your linguistic and physical muscles while learning new fun skills outside of formal classes!
Each workshop comes in packages of 2, 4, or 8 classes. Students can reserve and arrange for workshops before or after their arrival in Buenos Aires. Please contact us for more details!



Tango (Dancing)

As the most famous creative expression of Buenos Aires, we offer a wide range of tango classes for first-time dancers to experts; all skill levels are welcome.  Through formal instruction and dance floor practice, instructors cover both traditional steps and the latest improvisational techniques.

Photography

The primary objective of this workshop is to provide you with hands-on technical photography experience while familiarizing you with theoretical background. Examine the creation of photographic art, study of composition, development, scripting, camera operation and post-production.  You create an independent project of your choice in order to practically explore each of these themes.

Cooking

This workshop teaches students how to make the typical Argentine criolla food, from empanadas to bife de chorizo (sirloin steak).Learn the traditional dishes of each region of Argentina to the new fusion platters of Buenos Aires cuisine.

Fileteado Painting

Fileteado porteño is a popular and decorative art unique to Buenos Aires. Its stylized forms of intense color are painted to appear three dimensional using shadowing techniques. Flowers, ribbons, acanthus leaves, dragons and birds are typical elements of the Fileteado repertoire, combined with phrases and images of popular characters.

Polo

There is no better place in the world to learn polo than in the country that raises the highest-quality horses exclusively for the sport! Spend a day with the animal and sport that play defining roles in typical Argentine culture. A full day at an estancia (traditional Argentina ranch), the workshop includes polo classes in the morning and afternoon, a large asado for lunch, and horseback riding or watching a polo game in the evening. Students also have the option of staying the night at the estancia.
